Eco-Friendly Way to Say, "I Love You" this Valentine's Day
Forget schmaltzy cards with unoriginal messages: this Valentine's Day send the one you love a card that really does say it with flowers - when it grows into a bed of real wildflowers.
Ecohip's
stylish Valentines are made from recycled paper that's infused with wildflower seeds. When your Valentine has finished displaying their card, all they have to do is put it in a sunny spot, spread a thin layer of soil on top and water it well. In 6-8 weeks wildflowers will grow, serving as a lasting reminder of the blossoming love between you.
An ecohip Valentine is also the most eco-friendly way to say I love you: they're made from 100% recycled paper from Botanical PaperWorks and printed with vegetable-based inks. Even the plastic overwrap is made from corn. And once your ecohip card has bloomed, it is totally biodegradable, so you won't be adding to the tons of landfill or deforestation generated by conventional cards.
What's more, wildflower seeds are far more ethical than buying a bunch of flowers grown in a hot-house or flown in from abroad. Air freighted flowers not only notch up C02 emissions - large-scale flower growing can also damage the environment and communities abroad. Almost a third of the UK's imported flowers are from Kenya, where human rights groups report that valuable river water has been diverted from local villages to feed the West's desire for year-round blooms.
"Valentine's Day is all about love and showing how much you care, so these cards really do help you say it with flowers," says Steven Chasan, owner of ecohip. "And in the weeks to come, as your loved one sees their flowers bloom they'll be reminded of your love and thoughtfulness all over again."
