Green Tips for Kitchen & Bath

lightbulb.gif"Living green" doesn't mean you have to be a tree-hugging hippie. Green is more mainstream than ever before -- it's about how we live our day-to-day life and making small improvements that have a big impact on the earth. Going green in the home is no exception. Here are some simple tips to help make your home more eco-friendly.

Kitchen & Bath Green Tips

Your kitchen and bathroom are great places to start greening your home. Here are a few places where you can make some quick improvements:
  • Make your kitchen greener by upgrading to energy efficient ENERGY STAR appliances -- these appliances provide savings of up to 30% in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as energy costs, without sacrificing style. This is obviously not a cheap move, but when you're ready for new appliances, this will make a huge difference.
  • Install a kitchen faucet that boasts sustainable features, and turn it off the second you step away from the sink. Look for a faucet with the Watersense label -- these faucets have met government standards for water efficiency.
  • You can also make your kitchen even more green by cutting down on waste through recycling and composting. You can find information on composting at Compostguide.com.
  • Incorporate more green fixtures in your bath. After toilets and washing machines, showers are next in line as residential water hogs. Today's low-flow showerheads provide an easy way to conserve resources. Again, looking for the Watersense label would be a great start. You'll be doing your part to cut back on water consumption, and still be able to have a super shower.
While you may not be able to put all of these into practice right away, doing so when the time is right will save water and help you do your part for the environment (and for your pocketbook -- at least in the long run!).
