Second HGTV Green Home Giveaway Set for Spring 2009
HGTV
is building its second annual “green” home in Tradition Florida, a dynamic master-planned community located in the heart of one of America’s fastest growing regions – St. Lucie County – along Florida’s Treasure Coast. One lucky winner will receive the fully-furnished, custom-built 2009 HGTV Green Home next spring.
The HGTV Green Home is a Spanish contemporary-styled, coastal Florida cottage under construction in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The home will feature both construction and design elements that are known to contribute to an energy efficient, cleaner and even healthier living environment. As last year, the HGTV Green Home will register to receive a significant LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. LEED for Homes, a voluntary rating system, is a nationwide residential certification project of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Viewers can enter to win the home and grand prize package during the HGTV Green Home Giveaway 2009SM, from April 17-June 5, 2009. Fans can get a virtual tour of the home on HGTV.com beginning in April, followed by a televised tour during the HGTV Green Home 2009 special on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“The success of last year’s HGTV Green Home Giveaway showed us that many of our viewers are truly interested in hearing more about green lifestyles,” said President Jim Samples. “The HGTV Green Home Giveaway provides an excellent opportunity to showcase affordable, accessible and eco-friendly approaches to living.”
“We are privileged to be chosen as the location of the 2009 HGTV Green Home and see this as an opportunity to showcase our commitment to sustainable community development,” said Wes McCurry, president of Tradition Florida. “From seven residential neighborhoods in which our builders utilize green design and conservation elements, to a 150-acre research campus where scientists develop cures for disease in environmentally friendly, LEED-certified buildings, Tradition has earned a reputation as a model community for future generations.”
Jack Thomasson, the HGTV Green Home House Planner who has overseen construction of 12 out of the 13 HGTV Dream Homes says that today's construction materials and building practices provide many options for environmentally-friendly elements that can be incorporated into a home. “The HGTV Green Home is designed to demonstrate that you don't have to be extreme to be green,” said Thomasson. “Through thoughtful design and selection of products, the HGTV Green Home uses the latest building technology and easily attainable materials to create a beautiful, comfortable home that provides affordable examples for an audience passionate about making eco-friendly lifestyle decisions.”
“In addition, Tradition Florida is the perfect community for our second annual HGTV Green Home. We wanted to select a community that demonstrates that you can build green in an existing location with desirable amenities. Port St. Lucie is an established town that offers a warm climate and reasonable access to the Atlantic Ocean along with established shopping, schools and health care,” said Thomasson.
